Side around: build your reference shot
Learn a no-English reference layout first, then change the ball position and the angle one at a time.

One thing to remember today
Change one condition at a time to find your own reference.

필승당구레슨 covers a side-around reference in a layout with the first object ball close to the long rail. Rather than memorizing several numbers from the start, repeat the reference layout and compare how the result changes when the position moves. One diamond is the space between two neighboring points on the rail.
1. Start with the original scene
If playback is blocked or you want to see the scene again, watch from 2:40 on YouTube ↗
The scene buttons jump to the times we checked. Keep watching for the full explanation and the actual shot.
2. Sum it up in a diagram and check the conditions
- Layout
- The first object ball sits close to the long rail. Match both its distance from the cushion and the angle at which the cue ball comes in.
- Spin and tip position
- “No English” on the 2:40 screen means no left or right spin. The drawing shows a top-center tip position.
- Thickness
- Check how that example is hit. “No English” alone does not decide the thickness.
- Speed
- Watch the explanation of power at 4:00 as well. The same number can give different results depending on speed and table conditions.
3. Follow the steps
Watch the reference layout
Pause at 2:40 and look at where the first object ball is and how far it is from the cushion. Check the direction the cue ball comes in, too.
Read the tip position drawing
Look at the top/bottom tip position and the left/right spin separately. If you hear “no English” and just hit the dead center of the ball, you may not match the conditions in the video.
Repeat the same shot
Keep the ball position, aim and motion, and see whether the arrivals cluster. A result that repeats, not one success, becomes your reference.
Change only the position
When you move on to another example in the original, check whether only the first object ball moved or the cue ball’s angle changed too.
Compare the angle corrections
Read the correction at 8:00 together with that example and its way of hitting. Don’t memorize the diamond counts on screen as a universal formula for every angle and speed.
If it isn't working, start here
You think no English always means a center tip position
Whether there is left/right spin and the top/bottom tip position are separate things. Check the tip position drawing in the original first.
You move the ball and add spin at the same time
Then it is hard to know which change caused the result. Change only one of position, tip position, thickness or speed.

4. 5 reference shots + 5 shots with the position changed
Shots 1–5: repeat the reference layout from the original and write down the actual arrival zone.
Shots 6–10: pick an example where only the first object ball’s position changed and compare the results.
Keep the two sets’ layouts apart in your notes. Don’t combine results from different layouts into one formula’s success rate.
In each set, record a shot as “done” when it lands in the arrival zone you set in advance.
Tap a number to cycle: not recorded → hit → needs work.

We reviewed the description and the layouts, captions and tip position drawings at 2:40, 3:10, 4:00, 5:00 and 8:00. We have not re-registered the original’s diamond-count system as a standalone formula.
We checked the video description and the selected scenes. We did not verify the full transcript or measure anything on a real table. The steps, diagrams and 10-shot drill are TTBoys' editing and do not imply review or partnership by the creator.
